Episode 10: Preparations Complete

I took Milia to the commercial district to get her a new outfit, and from there, we headed to the weapon shop.

 

“Isn’t this a bit too flashy? Are you sure it looks okay on me?” Milia asked nervously as we stepped out of the store in her new white robe.

 

“You look incredibly cute and cool,” I assured her.

 

“C-cute? Really? If you think so, then I’m glad…” Milia blushed so much that it seemed like steam might come out of her head.

 

Good grief. Having such a cute party member can be quite a challenge.

 

Anyway, it's time to enter the shop.

 

“Wow, there are so many weapons,” Milia said in awe.

 

“This shop is said to have one of the best selections in the capital. It seems the rumors were true,” I responded.

 

The interior of the store was like a Japanese variety shop, with a wide range of weapons displayed. The areas were organized by weapon type, and we headed to the section where the swords were.

 

“Welcome. What are you looking for?” the shop clerk asked.

 

“I need a sword for her. Our budget is fifty thousand jewels, so we want the best quality for that price,” I said.

 

“Understood. I will find something suitable for you,” the clerk responded and began searching.

 

By the way, the currency value in this world is roughly one yen = one jewel, so fifty thousand jewels would be about fifty thousand yen in Japan.

 

Thanks to my canceled job offer, I have a good amount of money, and since the cost of buying a slave was much lower than expected, we should be able to get a good weapon.

 

Milia, looking worried, spoke up.

 

“Fifty thousand? What do you mean?”

 

“Huh? For you, at least that much in terms of performance is necessary,” I replied.

 

“Of course, I’d be happy with a better-performing weapon, but… Aren’t you worried that I might run off with it?” Milia asked anxiously.

 

“What, are you planning to run off?” I teased.

 

“I-I wouldn’t! I’m just saying, what if…” she stammered.

 

Good grief. Just as I saw in the game, Milia is too kind.

 

There’s no benefit for her to bring this up...

 

“I’ve accounted for that kind of risk, and most importantly, I trust you, Milia. Even if I were betrayed, it would be my fault for trusting you. You don’t need to worry about it,” I reassured her.

 

Rather than worrying about such things, it’s much better to focus on efficiency and choose the best weapon.

 

If I can fully harness Milia’s potential, the money spent on the weapon will quickly be recouped.

 

Just then, the shop clerk, who had been searching for a sword, stopped.

 

“How about this sword?” the clerk suggested, pointing to a silver sword displayed on the wall with a price tag of forty-eight thousand jewels.

 

“May I take a look?” I asked.

 

“Of course,” the clerk replied, taking the sword off the wall and handing it to Milia.

 

Milia lifted the sword and gave it a few test swings to check its characteristics.

 

Generally, the price of a weapon correlates with its performance, but each sword has unique features like weight and ease of handling. It’s important to find one that suits you.

 

“This is great! It doesn’t have any quirks, and it’s slightly heavy, which feels just right in my hand!” Milia exclaimed.

 

“Alright, it seems like a good fit. Shall we go with this one?” I asked.

 

“Yes!” Milia replied enthusiastically.

 

And so, we successfully acquired Milia’s sword.

 

Having spent most of our money, we need to start completing quests to earn more funds quickly.
